DESCRIPTION
Several springs were prioritized for development by the TAG and consultation processes to reduce the impacts of livestock on springs and on the neighboring riparian areas and tributaries to Omak Creek. Colville Tribes propose to install three spring developments and improvements in the upper Omak Creek watershed, between Clark creek and Swimptkin creek sub-watersheds. The three spring developments are identified as Upper Sheepherder spring, Lower Sheepherder spring, and Lower Moses Meadow Road spring, located in the Colville Reservation Range Unit 5, and will disperse livestock, and relieve pressure on waterways and associated riparian vegetation in the Omak Creek watershed. Areas of concentrated use (around the springs) will be fortified with gravel to reduce ground disturbance. This will allow the springs and surrounding areas to recover from livestock utilization and reduce the erosion and delivery of materials and contaminants to nearby tributaries to Omak Creek. This project will be 75% cost shared with an NRCS Environmental Quality Incentives program (EQIP) fund.
