DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the project was to reduce juvenile fish mortality by replacing irrigation pump screens on the lower, Middle and Upper Okanogan River. Okanogan Conservation District and the Colville Confederated Tribes reviewed the fish screen compliance on the Okanogan River, and replaced 98 non-compliant fish screens over the course of six years. This project specifically addressed a priority action to screen irrigation pumps located within the priority area of the mainstem Okanogan River, and will benefit migrating and earing steelhead and summer Chinook smolts, as well as migrating sockeye salmon smolts. Screening of unscreened or inadequately screened diversions is identified in the Okanogan River Habitat Limiting Factors Analysis and is also identified in the Subbasin Summaries for the Okanogan Subbasins.
